A girl who was inspired to be Goostrey Rose Queen when she was a train bearer in the procession six years ago has achieved her goal.
Rosa Tominson, aged 11, who was chosen from a strong field of eight by an independent panel of judges on Saturday (15 March), will be crowned at this year’s Rose Day on Saturday 28 June. Her attendants will be: Emily Anderson; Harriette Aspinall; Rosie-Mae Baddiley; Alice Crofts; Millie Jeavons; Kacey Sanga; Clemmie Thompson and Tippi Walsh-Goldsmith.
Rosa, who lives in Cranage and attends Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, has taken part in annual Rose Day since she was small but the time she rode in the Landau with the Rose Queen is her favourite memory.
“I really enjoyed the procession and I think that is the part I am looking forward to most this year. It will also be good to visit the other Rose Days in the area representing Goostrey.”
The Rose Bud Queen will be Erica Walker and the Lady in Waiting will be Emilia Spivey with attendants: Chloe Grindel; Seren Hughes; Mila Steele; Aoife Slevin and Lucy Tyrer.
Christina Burgess, Chair of the organising committee, said: “In this digital age it is so heartwarming that so many young people want to maintain the traditions of Goostrey Rose Day which dates back to the beginning of the last century.”
“I know the judges had a very difficult time choosing from such a strong list of candidates and I would like to thank them for the time and consideration they put into making their decisions.
“Rose Day is an event which brings the whole community together, both young and old, and we are fortunate that so many people get involved. However, whilst we have an enthusiastic and willing committee, we are always looking for volunteers for a wide range of jobs including: erecting and dismantling the equipment on the field, marshalling the procession or helping run a stall.
