It was a case of many hands making light work when the Goostrey Rose Day equipment, stored at the Pavilion, was transported to the Village Hall field ahead of Saturday’s celebrations.
A team of no less than 16 volunteers assembled on Sunday at the store room off Booth Bed Lane and quickly loaded the trailer, kindly provided by farmer Ray Brown, with all the paraphernalia needed for Rose Day.
The gear was then transported to the field where it was sorted ready for erection on Friday evening. The helpers were then rewarded with an ice cream courtesy of Jill Brown from Bidlea Dairy.
Christina Burgess, Chair of the Rose Day committee, said: “It was great that so many came along to help. It just goes to show how much Rose Day means to the people of Goostrey and how they are willing to help in order to ensure it is a success.”
There is still an opportunity for friends and neighbours to take part in the adult Tug of War competition which will take place in the arena at about 3.30pm. To enter a team of eight contact chair@goostreyrosefestival.co.uk
If anyone has an items suitable items for the tombola, they are asked to drop them off at 8 Eaton Lane before Thursday and there are still tickets available for the family ceilidh which starts at 7.30pm on Saturday evening. Tickets are available from Peter Gomes on 07867 798848. Adults £10, children £5. Revellers should bring their own picnic, drink and (plastic) glasses.
Rose Day takes place on the field used by the children of Goostrey School and so for health and safety reasons the committee has decided that this year no dogs, apart from assistance dogs, will be allowed in. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this matter.
